Partner Profile: Venture Hall
Location: Portland, Maine
Mission: Venture Hall’s mission is to create the conditions for aspiring entrepreneurs to deliver rapid, scalable, sustainable change. The organization provides the necessary talent, insights, connections and capital that entrepreneurs need to prepare themselves, their teams and their products to make an impact on their chosen markets.
How will Unum support Venture Hall? “Unum and Portland-based MaineHealth are each providing $100,000, mentors, business resources and subject matter expertise and are teaming up with Venture Hall on our inaugural startup accelerator program this summer,” said Venture Hall President Jess Knox. “We hope the backing from these two big-time companies will help get the state on the map as an innovator and attract more entrepreneurs and startups.”
Why is this support important? Health care is the largest private sector industry in the United States. Delivering effective care to patients requires the highest level of training, skill, dedication, teamwork and technology.
“Unfortunately, the job of providing health care creates significant burdens for those on the front lines,” Knox said. “Caregivers are limited by time, resources and information constraints, which make an already challenging job even harder. As a result, health care workers have some of the lowest job satisfaction ratings and highest rates of absenteeism and burnout of any industry, which translates directly into lower quality of care, and lower quality scores for healthcare providers.
“We want to attract entrepreneurs and innovators from across the country to create new solutions in the fields of health care, insurance and employee benefits to address these problem areas,” Knox said.
Why is Unum supporting Venture Hall? Unum US President and CEO Mike Simonds said he wants to grow the company beyond its current disability, life, and recently acquired dental and vision products.
“I’m excited about this partnership because Unum’s health care clients are looking for new, innovative solutions to support their employees, increase job satisfaction and address worker resilience,” he said. “We see this partnership with Venture Hall and MaineHealth as an opportunity to explore and support ways to solve those challenges, while also fostering economic growth in Maine.”
