People are the heartbeat of any business, and regardless of industry, company culture and perks are a top reason for attracting and keeping top talent.
The companies at the top of Forbes list of America’s Best Employers are often praised for their happy employee and positive workplaces, with businesses like Google, Costco, Wegman’s and SAS in the top 10. Marathon Petroleum holds the No. 1 spot this year.
For the second year in a row, Unum is also included among the best, appearing as No. 159 out of 500 and sitting at the No. 3 slot for the insurance industry.
“The best thing about this recognition is that it is an unsolicited endorsement by our employees,” said Diane Garofalo, Unum’s senior vice president of corporate human resources. “I’m extremely pleased that our culture here and business success are appreciated by the most important ingredient of our work – our people.”
In partnership with Statista.com, Forbes asked more than 30,000 American workers a simple question: On a scale of 1-10, how likely would you be to recommend your employer to someone else? How about other employers in your industry? Employees who participated represented companies with more than 5,000 staff members.
According to Forbes, the result was a list of 500 employers, across 25 industries, where workers felt right at home at the office.
“We want our employees to count on us for the same kind of care and support we give our customers,” Garofalo said. “Beyond providing benefits and resources, it’s our responsibility to understand what our people need now, and in the future, to enjoy rewarding, successful careers.”
From on-site health care clinics and wellness coaches to opportunities for employee advancement and encouraging work/life balance, Unum regularly looks for opportunities to evolve and adapt our workplace with our employee and the future of our company in mind.
