New partnerships expand Unum’s commitment to a diverse workplace

Forbes contributor Ekaterina Walter wrote recently that diversity is essential to the growth and prosperity of any company, because diversity breeds innovation, and innovation breeds business success.

We couldn’t agree more.

Ensuring the diversity of our company not only reflects our customers and communities, it’s also fundamental to who we are. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Unum is dedicated to creating a workplace that’s fair and inclusive, and that celebrates the contributions of everyone.

As part of our diversity commitment, we recently expanded the scope of our recruiting practices to include two new initiatives.

First, we’ve partnered with Springboard Consulting to work with colleges and universities in the U.S. to help job candidates with disabilities understand more about career opportunities at Unum. Since we’re in the business of providing disability benefits, we know just how important it is to create a work environment that’s inviting and accessible for all employees. We’ve long been recognized as a leading workplace for individuals with disabilities, and we plan to continue that tradition with this partnership.

We’re also committed to hiring more veterans through our participation in the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition of more than 180 companies committed to hiring veterans, we began working to connect qualified veterans with careers at Unum. Principles-driven leadership and the ability to perform under pressure are two of the myriad high-level skills many military veterans bring to private sector careers. We connect qualified veterans with careers at Unum, providing invaluable opportunities to the thousands of veterans and their families as they make the transition out of military service.
