As the coronavirus continues to spread across the United States, many of the local communities Unum employees call home are feeling its impact. There are countless examples of people stepping up to help their neighbors during this very difficult time, and Unum’s Corporate Social Responsibility team is working hard to evaluate and assess ways for the company and its employees to get involved, too.
“We’re working closely with our community and business partners to identify the most critical needs and to help coordinate a response that makes the biggest impact,” said Cary Olson Cartwright, assistant vice president of corporate social responsibility at Unum. “We’ve found there are three areas that require the most urgent action at this time: health and access to critical services, equitable access to learning, and food and security.”
Take a look at some of the work our CSR team is doing to support nonprofit organizations and the people they serve.
If you need help during this time, or if you’re looking to give, here are a few resources to keep us all connected and supported.
To get help, visit United Way Worldwide’s 2-1-1 hub for assistance finding food, paying housing bills or other essential services. There you’ll be able to find your local 211 or dial 2-1-1 to speak to someone who can help.
To help those in need, theUnited Way Worldwide has created a COVID-19 Community Response and Recovery Fund. Additionally, food banks are doing what they do best during emergencies – feeding people in need – but the most vulnerable people in our communities need us now more than ever. To help people in your community, visit Feeding America and designate your donation to your local food bank.
