Chris Winters is making a difference in his community

Chris Winters is a senior marketing specialist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and volunteers his time in support of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, Baton Rouge Free Clinic and the Emerge Center.

For Unum’s 2018 Corporate Responsibility Report, Chris talked about the passion and commitment he has for making a positive impact in people’s lives.

“When I started with Unum, I was elated to learn of the company’s commitment to supporting our communities through volunteerism.

“Volunteering has always been important to me. Early in my life, I came to realize that I wanted to be part of something important that changes people’s lives for the better.

“I work with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, Baton Rouge Free Clinic, and the Emerge Center for children with delayed speech and autism. It’s rewarding work because it has an immediate positive effect in people’s lives. When you feed someone, you help solve a problem they’re facing right now. I also love to do work that helps people grow and improve their lives. When you work with children to strengthen literacy and life skills, you help forge the building blocks of a strong community.

“One of the best parts about all this is that improving the lives of others is part of my job and who we are as a company. It’s awesome to see our company set the example and encourage employees to get involved to help form a growing coalition of community partners that can accomplish great things.”
